Open Art Örebro
Örebro
Detailed description of the Good Practice
In 2007 the new political directive was formulated for the Örebro Art Gallery. In this directive it is mentioned a clear commission to organise unconventional meetings between artists and citizens in Örebro. This was the starting point for the Örebro Art Gallery to organise the Open Art Örebro project under summer 2008. During ten weeks a long exhibition took place in the central part of Örebro city for a temporary outdoor exhibition where 70 artists were invited to participate with art pieces to represent a big variation of art.
In 2008 the project Open Art was appreciated of a large public where the ambition was to have art in the streets, square and malls in the city to give a positive acceptance for contemporary art and temporary art exhibitions around in the city public places/rooms.
The success about Open Art 2008 was so convincing for the politicians, civil servants and citizens that a continuation of the project for 2009 was just obvious.
Objectives of the Good Practice
Örebro Open Art 2009 increased in the amount of the artists invited to about 90 persons and the exhibition’s period was under 14 weeks long during the summer time. More information is that the art came to its place in a dynamic flow during the all period. Citizens and visitors in the city of Örebro were surprised in the public places. This is where new meeting places and areas are created to invite in, places which are open and which are both tickling and provocative.
