Detailed description of the Good Practice

The project´s fundamental idea is to improve the living environment of the residents by promoting sustainable development in resident activity. Increase awareness of the ecological way of life, support environmental education work and offer possibilities for practical environmental acts.


Objectives of the Good Practice

The goals of the project are achieved through five operation units:

  • operation teams, eg. dweller based “clubs” supporting ecologically sustainable way of life;
  • courses and training eg. encouragement towards a sustainable way of life at home and at work, hiking, care for own living environment, working with own hands;
  • environmental counselling and education about any topic for schools, day care centres, play parks, youth centres, residents’ associations, tenants’ committees;
  • recycling and shared use services for everyone in need- communication and sharing of experiences.

Project start date: 01/01/2003

Target group of the Good Practice

Residents of the eastern Helsinki area.

Funding of the Good Practice

The project is funded from Urban II programme, total €.407 303.
