Detailed description of the Good Practice

This measure will focus on design of a high quality commuter route for cycling in the CIVITAS+ innovation corridor between the city centre and the university to form a “Cycle Motorway” in Aalborg as a means of affecting attractiveness and safety of cycling.

AAK will design a commuter route for cyclist - a cycle motorway between the city centre and the University. This includes priority measures at traffic signals, dedicated cycling lanes, signposting, shortcuts, sheltering, services, and safety measures.

Objectives of the Good Practice

With this measure it is expected that quantifiable improvements in travel time and cyclists’ safety will be realised due to the measure. In a long-term perspective this will have a positive impact on modal choice in favor of cycling for students and other residents who travel in this corridor

More Details of the Good Practice

This measure will contribute to the design, planning, implementation and
evaluation of the impacts as well as procurement costs.

The ARCHIMEDES project will contribute to the design, planning, implementation and evaluation of the impacts as well as procurement costs.

Realisation of the "Cycle Motorway" will start in February 2010 and it will be operational by January 2011.
