Free-of-charge city bikes
Copenhagen
Detailed description of the Good Practice
Copenhagen started in 1995 with 1000 free-of-charge bikes in the city. The City bikes are public to everybody and can be borrowd from the City Bikes rack for a small deposit. The system is similar to luggage carriers on airports. After use the bikes can be locked at any city bike rack in the city and the deposit is returned.
The City Bikes became a permanent part of Copemhagen and they are of great public interest both in Denmark and internationally.
