Open discussions allowed to consider different opinions on raising public awareness on environmental issues
Public hearings were organised to discuss with different stakeholders the Conception of raising public awareness on environmental issues
Objectives of the Good Practice
The main objective was to integrate different stakeholders in the process of raising public awareness on environmental issues.
The conception has been developed by the group of relevant experts upon the requies of the Committee for Nature Use, Environmental Protection and Ecological Safety in 2005.
During 2006 several meetings were organised to discuss it with different stakeholders, their comments were processed and integrated by the working group. In February 2007 the Conception was approved by the Decree of the Government of St. Petersburg.
Participants of the Good Practice
The initiator of the process was the Committee for Nature Use, Environmental Protection and Ecological Safety of the City of St. Petersburg.
Working group, consisted from environmental experts, sociologists, psychologists, representatives from Universities and schools, religion confessions, NGOs, developed the Conception
Representatives of local authorities, NGOs, business, science and education took part in the discussions
Target group of the Good Practice
The method was mainly aimed for local authorities and NGOs
Funding of the Good Practice
All the activities were funded by the City budget

The comments and proposals made during the discussions were processed and integrated in the final document by the working group
