Project management system


Detailed description of the Good Practice

The system is based on „project management cycle” approved by the European Commission and allows convenient control and supervision of management process of all the projects.

This electronic manual serves as a guide in project implementation.
Currently PMS contains information about the projects carried out and going on in the Riga region, guidance for the project development, management and coordiantion as well as additional links to the EU funding programmes.

The Riga region project management system is an online tool for project management.

Objectives of the Good Practice

Since early 2000 number of implemented EU projects in Riga City has increased even as much as ten times. One of the main targets of the PMS is to provide users friendly, accessible and transparent system for the management of municipal projects. PMS has been translated in main European languages and it is practically adaptable to any new language within few days.

Development of Riga Region Project management system was initiated in 2001. From the end of 2003 International Projects Unit of Riga City Council City Development Department is a responsible body for the maintenance and improvement of the PMS.

Participants of the Good Practice

Since 2004 the maintanance and development of the system has been the reponsibility of the International Project Division of City Development Department of the Riga City Council.

At the moment this system has been implemented in all regional development agencies in Latvia as well in the Latvian University and Riga Technical University. Riga project management system has been implemented also in Stockholm city council (Sweden) and Randers municipality(Denmark), and it is translated in English, Swedish, and Russian languages. Practically this system is adjustable to any other language in few days.

Target group of the Good Practice

The online tool is mainly targeted to the munincipal organisations working with the project management.

Funding of the Good Practice

The maintenance and development of the system is carried out by the International Project Division of City Development Department of the Riga City Council.

PMS is an important project management tool of the city council that ensures management of Riga city council institutions’ projects started from identification of project ideas until implementation.It now it has been recognized as one of the best in the Baltic region.
