Detailed description of the Good Practice
Council was created as a part of BIG LAKES II-project. The purpose of the Council is to gather stakeholders from Peipsi region Estonia and Russian side: representatives from county government, local government, NGO-s and profitable organizations. Dealing with major questions and challenges related to the cross border cooperation in the fields on environment, tourism development, education, culture, etc.
The functions of the Peipsi Council are: to work out suggestions for Peipsi region priorities and trends for development, to make suggestions for Peipsi regional politics for the most useful way, to predispose cooperation between different sectors (LG, NGO, Bus.) and regions (municipalities) and to Help to coordinate and prepare big regional development-, infrastructure-, environmental etc. projects that include the whole Peipsi region.
Working mechanisms of the Council have been planned in the keen co-operation: 1) Board. Responsibility of the board is strategic leading of the Council, 2) Peipsi Forum, 3) Secretariat. Secretariat locates at the Peipsi Center for Transboundary Cooperation. Responsibility is overall coordination of the work, dissemination of information, work with press and organizing events and 4) Working groups in the fields of a) Tourism, water transport; b) Culture, education; and c) Environment

Objectives: sustainable development of the Peipsi region; cross-border cooperation to develop and maintain region’s well-being and prosperity in political, economical, educational, cultural and environmental senses.
