Detailed description of the Good Practice
The city of Dimitrovgrad is situated in the centre of the Volga area. Dimitrovgrad's proximity to a number of large-scale regional centers provides its economic links with the neighbor regions.
Dimitrovgrad has been twice granted with governmental rewards as a participant of the Best Equipped City of Volga Region federal contest. In 2004 the city got The Cultural Capital of the Volga Region status. For the time being awarding the Science City status to Dimitrovgrad is being discussed in the Government of Russia.
The population of the city is 127 500 and 64.7 per cent of the population are able to work. The number of those under the age of ability to work and those above the age are approximately equal.
As for the birth and natural diminution rates, the situation in Dimitrovgrad is more favorable than in the Ulyanovsk region. At the same time the death-rate is continually growing: 2002 - 14.6, 2003 - 15.0, 2004 - 15.4, and 2005 - 15.6.
The city of Dimitrovgrad has a City Health Development Plan.
The most important strategies and policies that support wellbeing
Tasks and goals – target groups:
1. Improving way of life.
• To lower drinking alcohol and smoking - teen-agers and youth;
• To promote physical activity – children, youth, working people, the aged;
• To improve the quality of diet – children, low-income population, pregnant women.
2. Developing civil liability and autonomy – the population of the city
3. Improving the living conditions.
Improving labour conditions – working people;
Raising environmental comfort of living – the population of the city.
Target group of the Good Practice
Good practice was aimed for the whole population of the city, maily for children, youth, working people, eldery people, low-income population and pregnant women.
