Active Living in Stockholm

Stockholm County

Detailed description of the Good Practice

Within Stockholm County there has been an initiative concerning physical activity with health promoting effects. The initiative resulted in a work shop regarding the county’s possibilities working with this issue, as a topic. Moreover, Stockholm County has been host for Healthy Cities Active Living Focus Group, a three-day seminar with six different cities participating. Local experiences regarding the work with promoting physical activity were discussed. The seminar agreed to focus the non-active groups in the society. Also, Stockholm has a leading role regarding the implementation of phase IV. This will be the topic of the meeting in June 2005 arranged for the development of the participating members.

Nationally and in the county there is an ongoing project called FaR® - (prescription for physical activity). The whole point with FaR® is to make it possible to prescribe physical activity the same way medical drugs are prescribed. The prescription is individually adjusted and it can be prescribed for both preventative reasons as well as for treatment. (www.fhi.se)
