Freiburg launches new Green City Cluster portal

Freiburg

Detailed description of the Good Practice

ICLEI member city Freiburg (Germany) has launched a new Green City Cluster initiative. The initiative consists of a website that contains information on a huge number of locally-based companies, including firms that specialise in energy, solar technology, environmental technology, construction, mobility, products and education and trainings.

Green City Cluster aims to help its members to better position themselves on the international markets for products and services in the areas of renewable and solar energy, energy efficiency, sustainable building, planning and environmental technologies. Another goal is to create future-oriented employment opportunities in the Freiburg region. This can be achieved through networking, the transfer of knowledge, support for innovation and the development of the Green City Freiburg brand.

There are currently around 12,000 people employed in green industries in the Freiburg region. Freiburg is famous internationally for its environmental approach and use of solar and renewable energy. It is also the host city for the ICLEI European Secretariat and has a strong track record of sustainable development in promoting local public transport and bicycle infrastructure.
